Henry Bain Sauce - A Kentucky Orignal

An overlooked Kentucky culinary gem is Henry Bain sauce . Mr. Henry Bain was a head waiter at the Pendennis Club in Louisville , KY. In 1881 , he developed a sauce for cooking with game animals . In that era the club members would bring their kill to the club and request it be prepared for a meal . This sauce is still served there to this day and is sold in some stores but the recipe can vary . In concept , the sauce uses a combination of tomato , vinegar, and other fruit ingredients .

Nicaraguan Latin Grill in Nicholasville

Recently the Nicholasville area restaurant scene was enriched with the opening of the Nicaraguan Latin Grill at 1001 Elizabeth Drive, Nicholasville , KY . It is adjacent to the Shell station near the Toyota dealership .

This restaurant has a very interesting menu and is a great way to experience authentic latin cusine . They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner . I tried the Lomo de Cerdo Asado which is charbroiled pork loin marinated with aschiote and topped with buttered onions and green peppers . I savored every bite and could easily get addicted to that taste . They have a friendly staff that provides great service .

I encourage anyone to give this place a try .

Bourbon Barrel Foods

For genuine and innovative Kentucky food products check out Bourbon Barrell Foods at their website http://www.bourbonbarrelfoods.com/ .

One of their products and related companies is the Bluegrass Soy Sauce Company and their website is http://www.bluegrasssoysauce.com/ .

This sauce is from the only small batch soy sauce brewery in the United States. It's made from whole non-GMO Kentucky grown soybeans and pure limestone filtered Kentucky spring water. The result is a smoky, brothy sauce with hints of oak and a mild sweetness reminiscent of fine Kentucky bourbon.

For information on sales contact Juliet Robison juliet@bourbonbarrelfoods.com
